Hezbollah Rockets Hit Haifa and Tiberias, Causing Injuries and Damage
Hezbollah rockets slammed into the northern Israeli port city of Haifa late Sunday, causing five rockets to destroy much of the buildings and infrastructure of the city. Authorities in Israel said eight people had been hurt in the attack on one of the country’s largest cities. The Israeli military is now investigating how its air defense systems failed to intercept the rockets and allow the strike to hit the major city of Haifa. Hezbollah assumed responsibility for the attack, saying it had targeted a military base south of Haifa.
In another development, rockets launched by Hezbollah also struck the town of Tiberias, on the eastern shores of the Sea of Galilee. The rocket attacks resulted in one injury and additional structural damage. As the range and the frequency of Hezbollah’s rockets extend, more areas surrounding are getting drawn into its attack, and the fears within Israel are rising.
Hezbollah rockets triggered Israeli warplanes to target Beirut again, focusing on the most strategic positions held by the militant group. The airstrikes focused on the militia’s infrastructure by using an Israeli military list of the most sensitive aspects of Hezbollah’s operational capabilities. This concentrated effort reflects a resolve on behalf of Israel to weaken the group’s military might.
Rockets fired by Hezbollah are another factor of the war that is still ongoing as they continue to send their rockets to the Israeli territory and invite a response from the military. The strikes are part of a wider strategy of Israel to dent the strengthening Hezbollah’s military capacity as the two nations hone in on each other. Since both are reacting, the situation is still volatile and complex.
The cycle of retaliation and counter-retaliation will most likely fuel the conflict into a protracted spiraling scenario. Hezbollah rockets and Israeli airstrikes are creating an environment under which military exchanges might well spur further confrontations, thus calling for regional stability and security fears.
Hezbollah Rockets Ignite Escalating Conflict in Southern Lebanon
Hezbollah rockets have intensified the conflict in southern Lebanon, with the Israeli military reporting that a third division has joined its invasion of the region. According to Hezbollah, its fighters are actively targeting Israeli troops in and around border villages.
In response to the ongoing hostilities, the Israeli government has vowed to ensure the safety of tens of thousands of displaced residents, allowing them to return to their homes near the Lebanese border after a year marked by cross-border fighting that began with the recent Gaza war.
The situation has escalated significantly since October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah began firing rockets into northern Israel in support of Palestinians, one day after Hamas launched a deadly attack in southern Israel. Despite suffering considerable setbacks in recent weeks, Hezbollah has remained defiant, asserting on Monday its confidence in its ability to “repel the Israeli aggression.”
Hezbollah rockets pounded northern Israel in a heavy attack, according to the Israel Defense Forces, which said more than 135 rockets were fired Sunday. Five crossed into Israel, setting off the air raid sirens of the Carmel and Bay areas of Haifa around 23:22 local time, or 20:22 GMT, according to an official statement issued by the IDF.
The military said interceptor systems were launched as rockets threatened to land. The IDF also stated that it has found fallen projectiles in the attacked area and will thoroughly investigate the incident in order to reach a fuller understanding of its implications and effectiveness in fighting against aggression. This attack represents a sharp escalation in the hostilities pointing to a period of heightened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.
Global Hub verified geolocated CCTV footage showing the moment that one of the rockets hit a roundabout near a supermarket and several apartment blocks in the east of the city.
In another video, emergency services and bystanders are seen inspecting a crater and piles of rubble and earth at the scene.
Hezbollah Rockets Cause Injuries in Haifa
Hezbollah rockets had exploded in Haifa, but Tal Rosen from the emergency services was on the spot and narrates the event to Reuters. He was indoors, 500 meters or 1,640 feet away when he heard the blast.
“At first we did not find any injuries, but then I noticed damage to a nearby building,” he explained, pointing to the shattered windows of an adjacent apartment block. “There were shards of glass everywhere in that building. I went inside and found four people with minor to moderate injuries.”
Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service reported it had treated a 13-year-old boy in moderate condition for his head caused by some shrapnel injuries and dealt with a 22-year-old man who received the worst injuries, including a head and a blast injury as he fell through a window-one of the critical consequences of the rocket attack.
